'Becks', 'Golden Balls', 'DB7', 'Dave', '******* *****' (thanks to that red card at the 1998 World Cup) - DB has had his fair share of nicknames down the years.

Now it appears the 42-year-old can now add another to the list, courtesy of renowned fashion photographer, David Bailey.

Starring on the cover of Italian magazine L'Uomo Vogue this month, Beckham revealed he "jumped at the chance" to be shot by Bailey, who has photographed the likes of Jean Shrimpton, Mick Jagger, Kate Moss and Jack Nicolson over the years.

"Bailey is such an icon so to be able to work with him for the first time was a dream," he said, according to the Evening Standard.

"It was a very special day. I've worked with a lot of great photographers but his was one of the first shoots when I've not even asked to see a Polaroid because I respect him so much," he gushed.

However, it sounds like their experience didn't go as smoothly as Beckham had hoped.

Having dropped his children off at school and driven to Bailey's studio, the former footballer said he arrived at the photoshoot to find the photographer – who gave him 'a lot of banter' during shooting – sitting having a coffee.

"He said: 'Come on here kid, come sit down. Now what do you want me to call you? David, Dave or'… something else which I probably shouldn't say in a magazine. It was "s***head!'

"So I said I honestly don't mind what you call me. I've been called worse before. So he said 'Perfect! S***head it is then.'"

Of course, Bailey's nickname for the star – who recently launched his second collection for heritage sportswear brand, Kent & Curwen – was all in good jest.

Beckham revealed: "Later he turned around to me and said: "I'm so glad you're not a d***head". Which is nice to know!"
