A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were trapped inside Paris's underground catacombs, featuring centuries-old skulls and bones of nearly 6 million people, for three days after getting lost.
According to Agence France-Presse, it isn't clear how the teens got lost or who alerted the authorities.
The catacombs make up a 150-mile-long maze underneath the city of Paris, but only a small amount of it is open to visitors. The rest is illegal to access, but some "cataphiles" still do it through secret entrances.
Operators at the museum made it clear that nobody had ever gotten lost in the tunnels that are open to the public. The temperature inside the tunnels is usually around 59 degrees Fahrenheit, or 15 degrees Celsius.
The boys went to the catacombs on Saturday night but nobody started searching for them for days. Searchers and rescue dogs ended up finding the boys Wednesday morning.
The BBC reports that the rescue effort took four hours. They were treated in a hospital for hypothermia but otherwise unharmed.
