Ever wondered why Piers Morgan is always so quick to defend Donald Trump?

Yes, they're good pals but Digital Spy has learnt that the Good Morning Britain presenter is also rewarded every time he sticks up for the US President.

"He always thanks me," the British star told us. "His staff print out all columns and interviews that are supportive.

"Donald then hand-writes a message on the print outs and his staff scan it and send it back. I love it because the messages are always so fun.

"They'll be like, 'Piers, you're my hero' or 'You're my champion'. There are worse things in the world than hearing from the President of the United States that you are his hero!

Tragic.

Piers continued "But I don't get these messages as much nowadays because he's so busy. I am going to see him at the White House soon though, which will be quite odd."

Piers and Trump have been friends for around the last ten years, ever since he competed in the President's reality show Celebrity Apprentice in 2007.

The presenter has also interviewed him around 35 times and they speak regularly on the phone.

Recalling their first conversation after Trump was made President, Piers laughed: "Some time in November, the phone was ringing. When I answered it, a voice goes, 'Is that Mr Morgan? I have the President of the United States for you.'

"It was so weird. I was like, 'Donald? Bloody hell! Wow, you really are the President.' It is strange, as it would be if any of my other friends suddenly became one of the most powerful people in the world."
