Green Day have been forced to cancel tonight's (4 July) gig in Glasgow after "safety concerns" were raised amid adverse weather conditions.

The band were due to take to the stage at Bellahouston Park as part of a UK tour that has previously included a show at London's Hyde Park for British Summer Time and another at Sheffield Arena.

Organisers PCL said in a statement: "We are sorry to inform you that due to adverse weather conditions it is no longer safe for the bands to perform on stage and unfortunately today's show will be cancelled. Tickets will be refunded from point of purchase within ten working days."

A statement issued by the band voiced Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool's disappointment at the news: "Glasgow, we are very sad to report that our show today at Bellahouston Park has been cancelled. The local Safety Council, production crew, and concert organizers have deemed the stage unsafe for the fans and everyone involved.

"We are very distraught about this as we are in Glasgow now and were very much looking forward to this show as one of the highlights of our tour. We have been playing in extreme weather conditions throughout this European tour, and the last thing we want to do is see a show cancelled.

"We love our Scottish fans and we don't care if it's raining f**king sideways, although the safety of our fans and our crew is always our top priority. We love you Scotland, we love the city of Glasgow and it goes without saying that WE WILL BE BACK!"

[Slaves]

The cancellation brings Green Day's UK tour to a close for now.

But there is some good news: Slaves, who would have been a support act for Green Day, have announced a replacement gig following the news (via Glasgow Live).

A spokesperson for the band said: "Slaves were due to support Green Day in Glasgow at Bellahouston Park, but as you know the show has been pulled at the last minute.

"Slaves will now play an impromptu gig at the 02 ABC2 with Glaswegian friends Baby Strange."
