Emma Stone has revealed that some of her male co-stars have taken pay cuts to ensure that she receives equal pay.

In an interview with OUT magazine, Emma admitted she "needed" some of her male counterparts to take pay cuts in order for her to have "parity with them".

Saying that addressing the disparity between pay in Hollywood is "what's right and fair", she added: "Getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, 'That's what's fair.'"

The Oscar-winning actress saw herself as "grateful" to receive equal pay to her male co-stars, particularly when the issue of the gender pay gap is viewed outside of Hollywood.

Admitting it feels like "we're in a bad dream", Emma added: "At our best right now we're making 80 cents to the dollar... [W]omen, in general, are making four fifths at best."

This isn't the first time stars have addressed the issue – cast members from across the worlds of TV and film have frequently campaigned on salary inequality.

During last year's awards season, Patricia Arquette spoke out about the "lack of diversity" across film, insisting "a bigger conversation" about power-sharing had to be had.

"It's not about actresses' pay inequality; it's about 98% of the industry has inequality," Arquette argued.

"It's not just about lack of diversity in film, it's the lack of diversity in CEOs and boardrooms and any position of power."
