Serkis appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to chat about his latest film, War for the Planet of the Apes, in which he plays Caesar – the leader of the genetically enhanced apes at war with humans.

"Purposely incorrect stories and phoney sources to meet their agenda of hate. Sad."

He continued with another famous Trump tweet: "Despite the constant negative press, covfefe," adding his own unscripted input, "Wait, what's covfefe, precious?"

But, back to War for the Planet of the Apes if we must...

Late last month, Serkis revealed some nice big spoilers for the third instalment of the movie reboot while chatting to Good Morning Britain.

"Caesar is evolved," he said. "He's always been able to feel empathy towards humans, and that's what this film is about – empathy.

War for the Planet of the Apes is showing now in the UK.
