Nobody is feeling the backlash from last Sunday's epic dragon battle on Game of Thrones more than Jerome Flynn.

His character Bronn was the unfortunate soul forced to nearly take out Daenerys's dragon with a ballista just before Drogon torched the battlefield (and fried lots of Lannister soldiers along the way).

Although Dany and her wounded dragon won the day, Jerome Flynn joked to Making of Game of Thrones that he learned quickly that sparring with dragons has real-life consequences.

"Since the day the battle aired, I've been a little unpopular, I have to say," he sighed. "My postman won't speak to me because I shot the dragon."

However, Jerome understands the harsh reaction to Bronn's last-ditch effort to win the battle, seeing as the scene was deliberately devised to test fans' loyalties between Jaime Lannister and Dany.

"How brilliant is that?" he declared. "And that's Tyrion's perspective, standing there. He's got Daenerys when she gets shot down, and then his brother is who's trying to kill her; Tyrion can't win, really.

"But that's part of the brilliance of where we've got to in the story after seven years of that character investment."

So, what is the likelihood that Bronn will eventually switch sides and make peace with poor Drogon for piercing his throat?

"[Bronn] doesn't have total disregard for Jaime, but he has a bond with Tyrion that's hard for him to ignore," the actor explained.

"And the connection they've made with their sense of humour. If Bronn's got a fondness for anybody in the world, I'd say [Dany's Hand to the Queen] Tyrion is probably close up there. He sees him as an underdog like himself."

There's hope for Bronn riding on the back of a dragon yet! Game of Thrones returns on Sunday (August 13) to HBO in the US and airs on Sky Atlantic and Now TV in the UK.
