Apple is going to hold a product launch event on 12 September, where it will introduce the iPhone 8 to the world. We're almost 100 percent sure.
The Wall Street Journal learned from sources briefed on Apple's plan that the reported 12 September launch will feature three new iPhones—likely the iPhone 8, the iPhone 7S, and the iPhone 7S Plus—as well as a new Apple Watch with a cellular chip, which is cool for the blessedly small percentage of the population that wears Apple Watches.
Whether the UK will be seeing the iPhone 8 on the same date is yet to be revealed.
(This is a standing reminder that "iPhone 8" is just the colloquial name for Apple's new iPhone. No official name has been announced.)
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, so despite reports of production delays, Apple is looking to impress with design and tech upgrades. The iPhone 8 is rumoured to have a huge edge-to-edge, bezel-less OLED display, and facial recognition via infra-red technology.
If all goes well, the new phone (and the new 7S models) will be available to wait in line to purchase 10 days after the launch per Apple tradition—so Friday, 22 September. If production is held up, then some people will have to hold out a little longer to drop their (reported) £1,000. Either way, start saving now.
