Nintendo has (sort of) confirmed that its iconic character Mario no longer works as a plumber.
This shocking revelation was discovered thanks to the various Mario character profiles on Nintendo's Japanese website.
Mario's entry reads: "All around sporty, whether it's tennis or baseball, soccer or car racing, he does everything cool. As a matter of fact, he also seems to have worked as a plumber a long time ago."
Yep, it seems Nintendo is 100% confirming that Mario no longer works as a plumber, which he became in 1983 when Luigi was brought into the equation.
That said, Mario was actually invented as a carpenter, not a plumber, according to creator Shigeru Miyamoto. He debuted in Donkey Kong, which was set on a construction site.
Other jobs Mario has held include: carpenter, plumber, cement factory worker, doctor, racing driver, golf pro, footballer, tennis player, baseball player and Olympic athlete.
Some fans are startled by the news that Mario quit one of his day jobs, while others aren't remotely concerned.
"The guy that's spent the past 34 years being the Mushroom Kingdom's savior didn't return to his old job? Shocking," wrote one person.
Another pointed out: "They literally fixed a pipe with tools on screen in Super Mario 3D World. Plumbers. Recent. CANON! C'mon Nintendo!"
"Mario has many talents. It's not unheard of to move into a different line of work," wrote another fan.
