If there's one thing Benedict Cumberbatch can do, it's play geniuses. He was genius detective Sherlock Holmes. He was genius surgeon-turned-Avenger Dr. Strange. He was genius computer scientist Alan Turing. He was even genetically modified genius superhuman Khan in Star Trek. So, it's only natural that Cumberbatch's next role be one of the most famous geniuses of them all: Thomas Edison.

In The Current War, Cumberbatch plays Edison after his famed invention as he and captain of industry George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) compete to see whose electrical system will power America into the future. Certainly it's the sexy Edison entrepreneurial drama you've never seen before. Inventing the lightbulb was the easy part; creating an electrical grid across a vast nation was tough. But, the third piece of this equation is Nikola Tesla, played by Nicholas Hoult, who arrives at the end of the trailer to say, "I fix problems for idiots."

Hmm, there's certainly no idiot in this situation. Only someone slightly less genius.
