Eddie Redmayne has opened up about his experience of stalking, after an obsessive fan appeared in court having been accused of harassing the actor.

In a note that was read out by his legal team, Eddie discussed the fan's 'unsettling' behaviour that eventually culminated in her watching him and his family without them realising.

"I always try to be open and friendly as support is what gives me a career," he explained, before admitting that he 'deeply regrets' meeting the woman in the question.

"She harassed myself and my family intermittently over five years, leaving us distressed, unsafe and deeply unsettled," he said (via the Metro).

The stalking began after Eddie met the fan in 2012 while appearing in a play in London, but her behaviour soon became increasingly disconcerting for the star.

Describing in the note how his stalker would appear "out of nowhere – observing me and my family without us knowing", Eddie went on to insist that the safety of his family is paramount.

"The safety of my family is everything to me and with her behaviour we can't feel safe," the note reportedly concluded.

Eddie Redmayne is currently shooting the follow-up to the hugely successful Fantasti Beasts and Where to Find Them, after filming kicked off back in July.

Fantastic Beasts 2 is expected in cinemas on 16 November, 2018.
