In other delightful Cumberbatch news, the actor recently revealed that he'd definitely be up for Sherlock going down the Doctor Who route and hiring a female lead.

When asked whether he'd support a gender-swapped version of the famous private detective, Benedict seemed pretty enthusiastic about the idea: "Why not?" he asked.

The future of Sherlock in its current form is still up in the air, with no word yet on whether a fifth series is happening – but perhaps a rejigged female format would get the wheel turning.

Mark Gatiss – co-creator and writer of the hit drama series – previously suggested that any continuation of the show is not a sure thing, saying that scheduling is a "nightmare".

Perhaps Sherlockina won't be coming to a telly near us soon after all. Or Sherlock, for that matter.
