It looks like we'll be seeing the Golden Company in the flesh when Game of Thrones airs its final season.

A casting call – as revealed by fansite Watchers on the Wall – has revealed that the HBO fantasy drama is on the lookout for an actor to fill the role of a "mercenary", and although the description doesn't explicitly say he will be part of the Golden Company, it seems like a logical jump given that Euron Greyjoy was seen in the season seven finale setting off to collect them on orders from Cersei Lannister.

The mercenary in question is required to be between 35 and 50 years old, and has been labelled an "authoritative, fit, cool, and charismatic military type".

The actor is expected to feature in two episodes and will definitely be seen on horseback.

That's not the only new role up for grabs.

Game of Thrones is also seeking actors for a number of Northern characters, including a "straightforward, honest" farmer, a "sassy" and "confident" woman (described as a "memorable one-scene part"), and a young sentry.

Plus, the show wants somebody to play a "rough-and-ready" sailor, who could perhaps be part of the Ironborn and part of Theon Greyjoy's crew hoping to find Yara.

The eighth season is reported to be costing HBO $15 million per episode, which would make it the show's most expensive season yet.

There's no confirmation yet on when the final six episodes will premiere.
