The nation's most loved documentary maker, Sir David Attenborough, is back and doing what he does best, just when we need it the most.

Blue Planet II takes viewers on a trek under the sea, showing some of the most beautiful scenes from under the waves and, as far as we can tell from this preview, it is definitely going to be pretty breathtaking.

And before we go further – yes, the video is five minutes long. And yes, it's worth watching every single minute of it.

"A generation ago, a series, Blue Planet took us beneath the waves, but now we know so much more," Sir David's soothing tones declare.

"New science and new technology, allow us to voyage further and deeper than ever before."

And among the amazing footage drawing us in are dolphins, the newly-discovered dancing yeti crab, tiny fish and beautiful coral – as well as so much more – dancing around in the water.

In short, it looks incredible and we can't wait to feast our eyes on the series in full.

Luckily, it's not the only time we'll get to see Sir David take us closer to nature and animals than we thought possible as he'll be fronting another one-off programme soon.

As part of the BBC's upcoming Natural History line-up, he will be investigating the life and death of the world's most famous elephant, Jumbo, who was the inspiration behind Disney's Dumbo.

Alongside a team of scientists, and with exclusive access to Jumbo's skeleton at the American Museum of Natural History, they will unravel the history of 'the world's largest elephant'.

Blue Planet II will air on the BBC later this year.
