Martin Campbell has revealed that he would consider returning to the James Bond franchise – on one condition.

The director, who stood behind the lens on GoldenEye and Casino Royale, has revealed he would want to see someone new in the role of the 007 agent before returning.

So, it doesn't look like he'll be back for the next movie then, as Daniel Craig finally confirmed he is definitely returning for Bond 25 back in August.

"I don't know [about]," Campbell told Cinema Blend. "I might be [interested], so never say never. I didn't [return] after GoldenEye. I don't know if it was sort of arrogance or whatever, I don't know.

"I just sort of said no to it. I was pretty much offered every one after that. But I just felt that I was repeating it. Another control room to blow up; another nutcase taking over the world.

"And also there is something refreshing about starting a new Bond, and particularly with Pierce [Brosnan]. It was sort of a Cold War sort of situation then, and we had Judi Dench for the first time. So there was a kind of excitement to doing it.

"Casino Royale was the same thing. Much the same reasons, actually."

Craig announced he would be reprising the role as the legendary secret agent on Stephen Colbert earlier this year.

"We've been discussing it," he said "We've just been trying to figure things out.

"I just want to go out on a high note, and I can't wait."
