First we had the news that Rush Hour 4 was going ahead back in 2012, but then we heard pretty much nothing about it for the next four years until we got a TV reboot featuring Jon Foo and Justin Hires that was cancelled after a season, and that was pretty much that.

But this week, Jackie Chan has reignited the reports that a Rush Hour 4 is actually happening by confirming the news in a recent Facebook Live chat with the San Francisco Chronicle.

When asked what projects he had coming up, Chan stressed that he was stepping into the role of producer more and more, with two American films in production next year, before a follow-up question as to whether there'd be more Rush Hour, or another Karate Kid.

"Good news," he began. "Next year. Rush Hour 4, I hope the script will be done. Tomorrow we're meeting with the director and Chris Tucker and make sure we're going on the right track."

As for Karate Kid? Jackie says they were waiting on a script – and that wait meant the kid (aka Jaden Smith) isn't actually a kid anymore.

"You can't say Karate Man," he added. "I know Will Smith would love to make a Karate Kid 2."

The Rush Hour chat unfolds about 17 minutes into the video below if you want to give it a watch for yourself:

The original Rush Hour starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker as two mismatched police partners and was released in 1998. It became such a success that it spawned two sequels, with Rush Hour 2 coming in 2001 and Rush Hour 3 following in 2007.

Earlier this year, Chan was reunited with members of his original stunt team and things quickly got emotional.

It followed quickly on the heels of the star being awarded an honorary Oscar in November last year, which also resulted in some tearful moments.

"I still can't believe I'm standing here. It's a dream," he said. "After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, after so many bones, finally… This is mine."

Chan next stars in new film The Foreigner, out in cinemas in the US on October 13, and also lends his voice to The LEGO Ninjago Movie, which is out in the US and UK now.
