After years of rumours that a new Bill & Ted movie was on the way, and just a few months after Keanu Reeves himself confirmed the writers had a story in mind, we've finally been given another update on the project from the man himself.

And, in a nutshell, it hasn't progressed a whole lot since we last checked in.

"We're trying!" Keanu told the crowds at New York Comic-Con on Thursday (5 October), according to UPI.

"There's a script out there. It's called Bill & Ted Face the Music and we're just trying to get it made. Show business is tough."

The actor went on to share a brief summary of the proposed script, and it doesn't sound as if it's deviated from the plot he outlined on The Graham Norton Show earlier this year too, so we can rest safe with the knowledge that the story and the script are settled.

Now could someone please just make the movie?!

"It's a cautionary tale," Keanu explained. "Bill and Ted were supposed to save the world, but when we see them, they are, like, older and they haven't saved the world. Their children are grown up and the wives are kind of like, 'What is going on?'

"Bill and Ted are playing to nobody and they are still trying to write the song to save the world and it's just weighing on them...

"We're trying to get it all worked out so, hopefully, one day. Hopefully, before I'm 60."

The first Bill & Ted film, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, was released in 1989 and starred Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as the titular two slackers who travel through time to assemble a menagerie of historical figures for their high school history presentation.

A sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, was released two years later in 1991, which means we've all been waiting more than 25 years now to find out the next stage of the duo's time-travelling adventures.

Meanwhile, Keanu has been busy getting to work on new projects, with his latest film Replicas dropping its first trailer earlier today.
