All of the stories in Stephen King's dense literary universes collide in the first real look at the Castle Rock TV series.
The JJ Abrams-produced show, which will stream on Hulu in the US, sets a series of interlocking supernatural mysteries against the backdrop of Castle Rock, the fictional Maine town referenced throughout King's work.
The New York Comic-Con preview paints a very spooky portrait of Castle Rock, likely because there's an appearance from IT's Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgard — who somehow looks just as creepy without the clown makeup.
It's difficult to get a read on the overarching story of Castle Rock, other than that there are definitely things that go bump in the night lurking in the small town.
In addition to Skarsgard (who is playing a totally new character, not Pennywise), the impressive ensemble includes André Holland (American Horror Story: Roanoke), Scott Glenn (The Defenders), Jane Levy (Suburgatory), Terry O'Quinn (Lost) and Sissy Spacek (Bloodline).
The project is being touted as having connections to King's many books, as evidenced in the trailer by the brief appearance of a Shawshank licence plate.
The town is perhaps most famously known for being the site of The Shawshank Redemption, but is also name-checked in Dolores Claiborne, Under the Dome, Needful Things and The Colorado Kid, among others.
A previously-released teaser touted these types of connections quite literally, by directly linking titles of some of King's most famous books. Watch that promo below:
Castle Rock is expected to arrive in the US on Hulu in 2018. There hasn't yet been any announcements about a UK broadcaster or air date.
