Corey Feldman has revealed that Carrie Fisher once tried to stage an intervention to get him off drugs while filming cult comedy thriller The 'Burbs.

Chatting to Yahoo! during a Facebook live video, Corey recalled how Carrie and the film's director Joe Dante sat him down for a "very serious talk", although he insisted he wasn't using heavily.

"At the time I was just about heading over the edge, Postcards from the Edge," he explained with a nod to Carrie's book-turned-film.

"[Carrie] was a very smart lady, and she was very sober at the time, and she looked me in the eyes and was like, 'Corey, let's be serious. You don't have to BS me. I can see what you're doing.'"

Despite admitting that he was only "smoking a lot of weed" at the time Carrie and Joe tried to intervene, Corey went on to add that Carrie wasn't wrong to assume the worst about his habit.

"This was right before I took that plunge into depravity, and I think Carrie saw something in my eyes where she knew this is not going to end well if you keep going on this route," he said.

"And she was right... A year later I was a heroin addict, and a year after that I was busted and it was all over the news."

'80s icon Corey made a name for himself through films such as The Lost Boys, The Goonies and Gremlins – but don't expect to see him reprising any of those roles soon.

Talking about the possibility of a Goonies sequel last year, Corey said: "[Director] Richard Donner is 87 years old. And it's like, no-one really wants to make it without him.

"He's the driving force behind it. He says it's still alive. But as we all know... when you get to that age, things slow down quite a bit."
