When the world first got a look at the upcoming film My Friend Dahmer, people were understandably creeped out. Based on a graphic novel by John "Derf" Backderf, My Friend Dahmer tracks the evolution of Jeffrey Dahmer from a troubled teenage boy to a serial killer whose 17 victims were subject to dismemberment, necrophilia, and cannibalism.

The film's intimate title and POV comes courtesy of Derf, who was an actual childhood acquaintance of Dahmer's. As portrayed by Ross Lynch, Dahmer is jittery, spastic, and unsettling to watch.

And while Derf, played by Alex Wolff, prods Dahmer with lines like, "I think we should form a fanclub. With you as our fearless leader, we can really disrupt this school," the most disturbing moments come not from any of the dialogue, but in the way Dahmer hacks away at a branch; pulls a dog close to him by the collar; sneaks up behind Derf in the darkness.
