Okay, so Netflix might be losing its library of much-loved Disney classics (not to mention the Marvel films) but it's fine, because they are going to be making an insane amount of original movies in 2018.

Speaking at an investors interview (via Variety), Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos said the company expects to release about 80 films next year.

"They range anywhere from the million-dollar Sundance hit, all the way up to something on a much larger scale," he said.

He pointed to the "big budget, event movie" Bright, which is directed by Suicide Squad's David Ayer, as an example. The film has a $90 million budget, will be released in December and stars Will Smith.

Netflix also has The Irishman, starring Robert DeNiro and directed by Martin Scorsese, up its sleeve.

"I think people will start seeing the potential for this original movie initiative, that it could be done on the enormous scale we have on the television side," he added.

Regarding the end of their Disney deal, Sarandos said: "We just have to focus on creating content that our members can't live without," while CEO Reed Hastings has been quoted as saying Netflix has done "very well" in regions where it doesn't carry Disney movies.

Netflix's original movies have had a mixed reception so far, with their adaption of Death Note and Adam Sandler's The Ridiculous 6 standing out for all the wrong reasons.

Having said that, Sandler's latest Netflix movie, The Meyerowitz Stories has actually had really good reviews.
