Harvey Weinstein has filed a lawsuit against The Weinstein Company to seek access to information he claims could defend him from sexual harassment allegations against him.

The lawsuit was filed in Delaware's Court of Chancery on Thursday, and in it Weinstein asks for access to his personnel file and email account after claiming The Weinstein Company has denied his attorney's previous requests for the documents (via Variety).

Harvey Weinstein was fired from the company that he founded and served as co-chairman of earlier this month following several allegations of sexual misconduct being made against him.

The lawsuit states that Weinstein believes there is information that will exonerate him from these allegations in his email account, and adds that he wants access to his personnel file because he believes some of it has been leaked to the media.

"Mr Weinstein believes that his email account — which is the primary, if not only, account he used during the term of his employment by the Company — will contain information exonerating him, and therefore the Company, from claims that may be asserted against him or the Company," the suit states.

It also adds that by obtaining Weinstein's personnel file, Weinstein can confirm that information was leaked from it, and "then pursue potential claims against the Company and its Representatives or officers for mismanagement by leaking confidential Company information".

The Weinstein Company has denied having any knowledge of accusations of sexual impropriety, and is conducting its own independent investigation of the harassment claims.

Weinstein himself is currently being investigated over allegations of historic sexual misconduct in London, Los Angeles and New York. On Tuesday, former production assistant Mimi Haleyi became the latest woman to accuse Weinstein.

Lysette Anthony, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Rose McGowan, Cara Delevingne, Lupita Nyong'o and multiple other women have accused him of sexual harassment as well. He denies "any allegations of non-consensual sex" in those instances.
