Larry David and Saturday Night Live go way back, from his brief stint as a writer for the show in the 80s, through his tour de force performances as his cousin Bernie Sanders during last year's election. But if you need evidence that there's such a thing as being too comfortable, look no further than his monologue from last night's episode, which featured, among other impossibly uncomfortable anecdotes, a riff on trying out pickup lines during the Holocaust.

Predictably, he ignited an internet shitstorm.

The list of people qualified to tell a 70-year-old Jewish man who lost family members in the Holocaust which concentration camp jokes are and are not acceptable is pretty short. But David's SNL monologue was just a string of dull, lazy provocations. At least we got to see him reprise his Bernie impression later in the show.
