The news that Lord of the Rings might be remade for TV has certainly been divisive for fans of both the movies and books alike, but now an actual hobbit has had their say.

Responding to the news that Amazon are in talks to reboot the series, Samwise Gamgee himself, Sean Astin, said that it's actually an idea he's long thought about.

Astin told Entertainment Weekly that he called a Lord of the Rings remake about 15 years ago. Which isn't that impressive in hobbit years, but there you go.

Calling the news "intriguing", he said: "I've been saying for 15 years that maybe like 12 years after Lord of the Rings came out, that it would get remade.

"And people always said, 'Oh no, it'll never get remade! It's a classic! They could never top it!' and I'm like, 'No, it'll get remade. It's a massive story! The characters are so beloved'."

Samwise by name, Samwise by nature it seems.

Although we can't really imagine anyone else taking on the role of Frodo Baggins' closest and bravest friend, Sean admitted that he doesn't expect to play Sam again.

"That didn't even occur to me. I just sort of thought, 'What would it be like to see the next Sam there?'" he said. "How would they do it? How? Who?"

All very good questions.
