Rose McGowan has been arrested in Virginia in connection with an ongoing drugs investigation.

The former Charmed actress turned herself in to police in Virginia on Tuesday (14 November) over an outstanding warrant from earlier this year, according to People.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department opened up an investigation in January when it found traces of narcotics in personal belongings left on a United Airlines flight to Washington DC.

Law enforcement officials in Virginia issued a warrant for McGowan's arrest when their investigation led them to believe that McGowan's property was among the belongings seized from the flight.

According to a statement from Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, McGowan paid a $5,000 bond on Wednesday and was released after being formally arrested on felony suspicion of a controlled substance.

"Ms McGowan appeared in Loudoun County, Virginia, on November 14, 2017, to accept service of the Airports Authority Police arrest warrant, and she was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond," a spokesperson for the police department said.

McGowan has been in the headlines recently for joining Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevingne, Ashley Judd, Kate Beckinsale, Lea Seydoux and multiple other women in accusing producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct.

Harvey Weinstein's spokesperson continues to strenuously deny "any allegations of non-consensual sex" made against the one-time Miramax producer.

The 44-year-old actress also made headlines last month when she was temporarily suspended from Twitter for tweeting a private phone number in a series of tweets about Weinstein.
