Jim Carrey has opened up about his battle with depression and said that he's "sometimes happy".

Talking to iNews about new Netflix documentary Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond, Carrey explained how his struggles with depression have changed over the years as he learned to cope with it.

"At this point, I don't have depression. There is not an experience of depression. I had that for years, but now, when the rain comes, it rains, but it doesn't stay," he said.

"It doesn't stay long enough to immerse me and drown me anymore."

Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond explores Carrey's method approach to playing Andy Kaufman in Milos Forman's 1999 biopic Man on the Moon.

But it was his approach to recent red carpet events that have been more in the news, such as his bizarre and awkward New York Fashion Week interview that quickly went viral.

Carrey will also soon be returning to TV for Showtime's new comedy series Kidding, which sees him play a hugely successful children's TV star whose fame and family life slowly begin to unravel.

Showtime president David Newins has promised big things from Carrey's return, saying it is going to leave audiences "wondering how they went so long without him".
