Of all the problems with the DCEU's most recent superhero outing Justice League, surely the most ridiculous was the editing out of Henry Cavill's moustache?

To recap: the Superman actor initially wrapped shooting on Zack Snyder's Justice League and grew a fairly distinctive moustache for his forthcoming role in Mission Impossible 6.

However, Cavill was then told he would have to undergo pretty extensive reshoots on Justice League.

That was after the movie's original director Zack Snyder had to drop out of the project and Joss Whedon took over to finish things up.

The problem with this was that - by then - Cavill had already grown the moustache and could not be seen with one in Justice League because: 1) Superman doesn't have a 'tache in the other footage already recorded and 2) the moustache is ridiculous.

So there was one option left: to shave it off or CGI it off.

Obviously, shaving the thing was by far the most cost-effective and time-effective antidote, but there was a problem, as Mission Impossible 6 Paramount Pictures refused to let Cavill shave the 'tache off.

As explained by Justice League effects team LDN Films in a Reddit AMA this weekend, Warner Bros were so desperate to get the 'tache off Cavill, they even told Paramount they would digitally create a CGI moustache for Cavill to wear in Mission Impossible 6.

But Paramount just wouldn't budge. Instead, leaving us with this:

"To some people it's a cool little project to get stuck in to and another problem to solve, which is what a lot of VFX is about. Challenging. To me, as a fan, I was annoyed," LDN Films said.

"Paramount should've shaved him and stuck a fake one on for MI6. [It was] ridiculously petty of them.

"We did tests on already shot footage of Superman to add a beard as well to show the 'MI6' team at Paramount it was loads easier, and Warner Bros. offered to pay for all the beard adding shots in MI6.

"They said no."

We hope Mission Impossible 6 is really good after all this hassle...

Justice League is in cinemas now.
