The latest versions of iOS are pretty, what with all the pizzazz of subtly moving parallax backgrounds and zooming animations when you load up your apps. The problem is that some of these flashy bits of style take precious seconds of your time. And if you turn them off, your iPhone will instantly look and feel way, way faster.

You can minimize animations on your iPhone by going to Settings, then General, then Accessibility, and flipping on Reduce Motion. But it doesn't turn animations all the way off. This trick discovered by the folks at 9to5 makes them go away entirely, and it makes all the difference in the world. That said, the way you do it is sort of weird:

This process of turning on Assistive Touch and then repeatedly calling up Spotlight Search is definitely unintuitive and clearly a glitch, one that Apple will certainly fix the next time it puts out a new version of iOS. But for now, it can help save you a few precious fractions of a second every time you load up an app or go the the homescreen, and those savings are worth it!

Hopefully Apple will build this in as a real feature someday.
