Praise the gods of gaming, Agent 47 is back (and ready to kill, creatively).
When it comes to some good old digital dismemberment of virtual foes, it has been a long wait for Hitman: Absolution, the fifth game in the huge-selling series that started back in 2000.
Fans and newbies will be pleased to know that this lavish installment looks stunning and plays with precision. Agent 47 gets his usual complement of weapons, including the trusty fibre-wire for silent strangulations and stainless steel Silverballer 45s (dual wielded, naturally). Or you can drop cover and “go loud” with automatic machine pistols and shotguns galore.
But Hitman, for the purists, is all about stealth, and you’ll have the opportunity to use some rather unlikely objects to finish off unsuspecting ne’er-do-wells. Lead piping? Obvious, but effective. Samurai sword? That’s more like it. China mug? Crack to the back of the skull should do it. Sink plunger? Hmm, OK, we’re stumped about what to do with that one (but damn it if we won’t die trying).
Hitman: Absolution (Square Enix) is out 20 November on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3
