The in game map from GTA 5 has supposedly leaked on the internet, revealing the staggering size of the world within what must surely now be the most hyped computer game of all time (not to mention officially the most expensive).

And given that, from 17 September onwards, most of us are going to be living there for next month or so, we thought it was worth a look.

The images were posted on Reddit by a user who claimed to have taken them from an early sale of a game guide, and although they haven't been verified yet by the developers, it appears to fit with what we’ve seen from the game so far in the numerous teaser trailers.

For one thing there is the giant mountain to fling yourself off, then the extensive-looking airport and new transport options like a cable car system and train network.

The really gob-smacking part though is the countryside – specifically, how much of it there is.

Anyone who enjoyed getting out of the city and roaming over fields in the unfurling digital dusk during San Andreas will love the scale of outdoor action on the cards here, particularly when you overlay the two maps like this:

Rockstar weren’t kidding when they said the world in Los Santos is be huge.

Not that we know for certain that this is really it, of course. But in the spirit internet half-truths and rumour, gawping at these maps is an entertaining way to pass the time until we can finally get our hands on the game for real...
