There’s more to the W Hotel than a well-stocked tequila bar decorated with a ludicrous number of glitter balls (though that’s certainly worth a look). As is befitting a luxury hotel in the heart of London’s cinema district, the W also has a state-of-the-art HD screening room, which it’s starting to make very good use of.
Launching on October 16th, ‘W Film Club’ will screen new releases once a fortnight, starting with Walter Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On The Road (other upcoming films include the excellent tim-travel thriler Looper, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Seven Psychopaths, by the writer of In Bruges).
The screening room is an intimate 39 seats, and – in a landmark move – the popcorn is free.
What’s more, guests have the chance to dine at the W’s superb Spice Market restaurant (pictured below) either pre or post-meal; the Film Club menu boasts dishes including spiced chicken samosas and sea bass with shiitake mushrooms, ginger and tarragon, and comes in at an ultra-reasonable £20.
The W Film Club might lack the choice of the multiplex and it won’t last forever (the screenings end in January), but it’s still a far better bet than sing-along Rocky Horror Show at the Prince Charles.
