4 TV Shows to Keep an Eye on This Autumn

4 TV Shows to Keep an Eye on This Autumn

A take it or leave it guide to four shows breaking big this autumn.

1 The cowboy one with Kevin Costner in it: Hatfields & McCoys

It’s about time the Kevin Costner Revisionist Movement got mobilised, and we’re certainly pleased to see him back in this mini-series about warring families in the wake of the American Civil War — as were the Emmy-award-nomination-hander-outers, who’ve given it a handsome 16.

Starts in October, Channel 5

2 The Spanish detective one with a New Zealander in it: Falcón

After a spate of chilly Nordic murder mysteries, TV commissioners have had a brainwave: do it somewhere hot. (You know, fiery women, short tempers, rapidly decomposing corpses — olé!) Based on Robert Wilson’s books, this stars Lord of the Rings alumnus Marton Csokas in the title role.

Starts this month, Sky Atlantic

3 The rude one with Brooklyn hipsters in it: Girls

Precocious 26-year-old Lena Dunham writes, directs and stars in this shocking and (sporadically) hilarious comedy, which purports to tell you exactly what goes through the minds of a bunch of aimless, arty New York girls — sugar and spice don’t get a look in. Watch it through your fingers.

Starts this month, Sky Atlantic

4 The Irish one with the guy from Bridesmaids in it: Moone Boy

Though it looked like he might go all “I’m pals with Judd Apatow now” on us, actor Chris O’Dowd is returning to his roots for this comedy, which he stars in and has co-written, about an 11-year-old and his imaginary friend in Eighties Ireland (O’Dowd plays the friend, not the 11-year-old).

On now, Sky1
