Among the many upcoming Star Wars spin-offs, there's a new one on the horizon. Variety is reporting on plans to make a standalone movie on the early life of Han Solo, to be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord. Miller and Lord previously collaborated on 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie. Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan are writing it.

The movie, slated for a May 25, 2018 release, will tell of the early days of Han Solo and how he became a smuggler. Of course, Young Han Solo was supposed to appear in the prequels. And there were six (now deleted from the canon) novels featuring a pre-A New Hope Han Solo.

We'll go out on a limb and predict that this movie is going to cover how Han saved Chewbacca and how he pissed off Jabba the Hutt, and how his torrid, doomed love affair with Boba Fett led to his eventual imprisonment at Jabba's Palace (okay maybe just the first two).
