After bagging a Tony for his portrayal of Lyndon Johnson, Bryan Cranston looks ready for some more awards attention in his new movie, Trumbo, about the Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted as part of the "Hollywood Ten" for his supposed connections to Communism and refusal to testify to the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
Trumbo wrote hit movies under a pseudonym while blacklisted, most famously Spartacus. The actor formerly known as Walter White sports a pretty amazing moustache as Trumbo and trades lines with Louis C.K. and Helen Mirren, playing Communist-outing gossip columnist Hedda Hopper.
"You don't end something like this by giving them what they have no right to ask," Cranston says triumphantly at one point.
Trumbo comes from veteran TV writer John McNamara and director Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Game Change, The Brink). We'll see if the movie's as good as Cranston's facial hair when it's out November 6.
