It's a problem as old as time itself. You get a tattoo in honour of your loved one, and a few years later find yourself in the midst of an acrimonious public divorce that suddenly makes the ink look a little daft.
You could opt for expensive and painful removal surgery or - as in the case of Johnny Depp and his tribute to Amber Heard - get a little more creative.
US Weekly reports that the 53-year-old actor has changed the tattoo on his knuckles that reads "SLIM," a nickname for Heard, to "SCUM."
As you can see in this photo from May 10, Depp's knuckle tattoo still reads "SLIM."
And here on July 1, the L has been changed to a C and the I to a U.
This is reminiscent of the time Depp had rethink his "Winona Forever" tattoo after he and Winona Ryder broke up, although the result - "Wino Forever" - certainly seems a little less harsh.
The lesson here? Never get a tattoo of anything that you may one day change your mind about. So that pretty much just leaves your choice of football team, then.
