The legendary directing career of Quentin Tarantino really will be ending in the near future - at least according to the man himself.

Tarantino has been threatening to retire after his 10th movie - he's currently at work on his 8th - for years, and he reiterated that stance at the Adobe Max conference in San Diego, California.

"Drop the mic. Boom. Tell everybody, 'Match that shit'," he joked (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The next Tarantino movie was tipped earlier in the year as "a Bonnie and Clyde-ish" 1930s gangster movie filmed in Australia, and he's also been working on a project based around cultural events in the year 1970.

Fans have also been rallying for Tarantino to take over the Deadpool franchise following the departure of its director Tim Miller, although there are no apparently no serious talks underway with 20th Century Fox.

There's also the prospect of Kill Bill Vol 3, which has weighed heavily on the minds of both fans and Tarantino himself over the last decade.

"I'm not committing to it, but I wouldn't be surprised if The Bride made one more appearance before the whole thing is said and done," he revealed earlier this year.

"I am talking to Uma about it just a little bit. Some of the stuff that I'd written that never made it into the movie that maybe I could use."

Looking ahead to his retirement at the Adobe Max today (November 3), Tarantino admitted that he had lofty goals for his legacy.

"Hopefully, the way I define success when I finish my career is that I'm considered one of the greatest filmmakers that ever lived," Tarantino said, adding: "And going further, a great artist, not just filmmaker!"
