Carrie Fisher has revealed that she did indeed have an affair with her Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford - and "it was so intense".

The 60-year-old actress told People that when she had a relationship with the older actor, their whirlwind romance lasted just three months while the pair were filming the original Star Wars movie in 1976.

At the time, Carrie was just 19 years old while Ford was a married father-of-two and 14 years her senior.

"It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend," she said.

After 40 years of keeping this secret close to her chest, she's making many fans happy with the news Han Solo and Princess Leia fell in love on and off screen. She was inspired to disclose this controversial secret after coming across her own journals from the time of filming.

The couple first hooked up after a birthday party for director George Lucas.

"I looked over at Harrison. A hero's face—a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow," she wrote. "How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?"

She added: "I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him."

Harrison didn't respond to requests for comment over all this, but Carrie has apparently given Harrison a heads-up about the publication of their long-kept secret in her new book, The Princess Diarist, which includes this revelation and will be released on 22 November.
