After La La Land director Damien Chazelle revealed Emma Watson and Miles Teller nearly took the lead roles for the Oscar-nominated movie, reports did the rounds that they were both 'too demanding', so lost out on the roles to Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

According to a source at Page Six: "Miles was offered $4 million to star in La La Land, but he said he wanted $6 million. Watson was offered the lead female role, but she initially wouldn't commit.

"Then she began making all these crazy demands, like rehearsals for the film must be done in London — for a film called 'La La Land!' They jumped through hoops to make it work with her, but she just didn't feel the film was right for her.

"Now both Miles and Emma Watson are raising hell with their agents for not securing the roles for them — even though it was the actors' fault for being too demanding."

Another insider added, "Both Miles and Emma f–ked themselves over for not doing La La Land. Now that it's winning all the awards, they're freaking out and looking for someone else to blame."

Miles quickly shut down the rumours on Twitter, though, replying to Page Six's tweet with: "reporting" alternative facts."

The rumours came as writer and director Damien Chazelle revealed last week that the pair were very nearly cast in the leading roles, telling Uproxx: "The casting of this movie during the six years it took to get made went through lots of permutations, and it's true there was a moment where Emma Watson and Miles Teller were doing it.

"And neither of those casting things wound up lasting or working out. But it was part of the up and down of this movie: that we were about to make it, we were about to not make it, about to make it, about to not make it. But I loved working with him in Whiplash. That's why he and I started talking about doing this one together."

During an interview with Esquire back in 2015, Miles claimed Damien offered him the lead while they were filming the Oscar-winning Whiplash, before his agent called him up to tell him that he was "no longer creatively right for the project".

Damien refused to address Miles' comments, but added: "Getting a musical movie made is like a slightly bigger miracle. And it just requires every little piece.

"Like Ryan and Emma agreeing to do this and take a gamble on this and on me. It requires all these things to line up at just the right moment."

La La Land broke the records for most Golden Globe Awards at the annual ceremony over the weekend, sweeping the board with seven wins.

It claimed Best musical or comedy film, score and song, while Damien took home screenplay and best director. Emma and Ryan won in the acting categories.
