Disney has finally revealed when we can expect Indiana Jones to be cracking his whip again on the big screen.

The fifth adventure for Indy will be released on July 19, 2019 and, as expected, will see star Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg team up, along with franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

"Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can't wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019," enthused Alan Horn, Chairman of Walt Disney Studios.

"It's rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn't be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven."

By the time Indiana Jones 5 is released, it will have been more than a decade since 2008's critically derided Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which still pulled in almost $800 million at the box office.

Given Disney's recent bumper success with the return of Star Wars, big things will be expected of Indy's comeback.

Nothing is yet known about the story of the fifth outing, but we do know that George Lucas probably won't be involved.

Last year, it was reported that even though he was set to be an executive producer, it's not the case. "He's not, to my knowledge. I've had no contact with him," explained David Koepp, who is writing the new Indy adventure.

For some fans, it's a surprise that Indy is coming back at all, since he apparently died after receiving a heavy dose of radiation in Crystal Skull. That's dark, guys.
