The first trailer for Stephen King's The Dark Tower sets the stage for the mystic and brutal battle between The Gunslinger and The Man in Black.

Idris Elba and the Matthew McConaughey lead the epic good-vs-evil struggle, which shows all hell threaten to break loose in Mid-World and beyond as young Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) gets caught in the middle of the chaos.

"You can't stop what's coming," McConaughey's Man in Black (aka Walter Padick) declares. "Death always wins."

Fortunately for all of us, Elba's Gunslinger (aka Roland Deschain) makes it clear that he won't let The Man in Black succeed in compromising the Dark Tower.

"I do not kill with my gun. I kill with my heart," the Gunslinger seethes.

So what is this Dark Tower and why is protecting/destroying it so important, then? In this post-apocalyptic fantasy, the mid-point between all of time and space is centred in this mystic Dark Tower.

The trailer release follows an intriguing Twitter exchange of quotes from King's novels courtesy of Elba and McConaughey earlier this week.

Director Nikolaj Arcel is bringing this strange and wonderful world to life alongside producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, who finally made a Dark Tower movie a reality after a decade of development.

The Dark Tower will reach cinemas on Friday, 4 August in the US and Friday, 18 August in the UK.
