A new Blade Runner 2049 behind-the-scenes video has been released, promising the sequel's not just a retread of the cult original.

The four-minute video features interviews with Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and director Denis Villeneuve among others, as they talk up the highly anticipated sequel alongside some new footage.

"We're running towards the finishing line right now. We are elated. It feels like Christmas as we look at the completed shots," Villeneuve told EW.

This Sunday (25 June) marks the 35th anniversary of Blade Runner and Ford is happy to be back playing Deckard. "I think it's kind of fun to play a character 30 years later," he enthused.

"The story, the themes, the stunning visual environments – it was a pleasure to get back into the world of Blade Runner again. I'm used to trying on old clothes. Happily, they fit."

But while Blade Runner 2049 welcomes back Deckard – and Eduardo Gaff – it won't be a lazy remake. "It's not just a replica of the first film. We're marrying the familiar with the slightly divergent in order to give ourselves an identity," promised art director Paul Inglis.

The new featurette has at least made us a bit more positive about the movie following Villeneuve's comments earlier this week, when he said he had "made peace" with it possibly failing.

"I came on board because the script was very strong. But no matter what you do, no matter how good what you're doing is, the film will always be compared to the first, which is a masterpiece. So I made peace with that," he noted.

Blade Runner 2049 hits cinemas on 7 October.
