The second trailer for the forthcoming movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower has been released.

The great news is that it shows the battle between Idris Elba's gunslinger Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey's mysterious Man in Black finally getting under way.

It also gives us more information on the history of the gunslinger, and the creepy Man in Black's mission to bring the world to an end.

preview for The Dark Tower - trailer 2

"The tower is all that stands between light and darkness," Idris Elba's Roland says at the start of the trailer, going on to recap the history of gunslingers, before describing himself as "the only one left".

On hand to see the end to that is the Man in Black, who seems intent on bringing the tower down.

"The tower will fall," he says. "Get used to the carnage."

The trailer goes on to show the war between the pair heading for Earth, as the Man in Black walks through the streets of New York, taunting Roland.

"You really think you can stop me, gunslinger?" he asks, before the two can be seen going through a window.

Joining the all-star cast is young Doctor Foster actor Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers, who can also be seen in action in the trailer.

Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley as Richard Sayre, plus Cabin in the Woods actor Fran Kranz, round off the cast.

The Dark Tower will be in cinemas August 18.
