Wonder Woman has been confirmed as a massive hit for director Patty Jenkins, who returned to the big screen for the first time since her acclaimed Monster in 2003.

The film could have also reunited her with Monster star Charlize Theron, but the actress was forced to turn down a role in the DCEU movie.

The actress was asked about the film on The Howard Stern Show (via Heroic Hollywood), with Stern admitting that he briefly thought that Jenkins and Theron had reunited before realising it was actually Robin Wright in the movie.

"No, I'm not in Wonder Woman," said Theron. "[Patty and I are] friends. I think the world of her. We have a mutual respect for each other.

"She did come to me, and at the time I was either working on something or I don't know. There was a reason I couldn't do it."

There's no doubt that Theron has the credentials to play an Amazon. Maybe in the sequel, eh?

Theron's role as real life serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster was a turning point in her career, and snagged her the Best Actress Oscar.

She will shortly be seen back in action movie mode Atomic Blonde, which is out on 28 July in the US and 9 August in the US.
