The first trailer for Jigsaw aka Saw 8 has landed, and with it some glimpses of truly horrible tricks and traps – the calling card of the movie series.
It seems that the main strand of the movie will see five people fight to escape the killer's clutches through a series of games, all while a chain around their necks pulls them towards needles, saw blades and more. It appears to be taking place within a barn, and certain bits of farming equipment make key appearances.
Let's take a look at what we can glean.
1. Buckethead buzzsaw
The first stage, it appears, sees our unwilling participants dragged towards a wall of buzzsaws thanks to a chain around their necks. Oh, and they're wearing buckets of some kind. One of them probably isn't going to survive, as we see some bloodstain on a buzzsaw before it stops moving.
2. Needles
Three needles. But we can see there are at least four of them left. Are they the antidote to something? Or are they poison? Who knows. But injecting yourself with a random substance isn't very nice.
3. Peril in a grain silo
Two people are locked in a silo as dirt starts to rain relentlessly down on them, trapping them. Bad enough, right? Only then, all manner of sharp implements – rakes, buzzsaws and the like – start DROPPING from the sky. Uh-oh.
4. Wires under floorboards
Maybe the four of them survive, though? We see them in a farmhouse of some kind where they first meet Billy the Puppet. There's a motorbike they have to stop for some reason, and the floorboards aren't the sturdiest as one of them falls through, getting their leg caught in some nasty-looking wires. There's a wire system rigged up in this room, as we see in a later shot. AND they've still got the chain around their necks too. Honestly, Jigsaw, cut them a break.
5. Bear trap lasers
Could this be a homage to the iconic reverse bear trap that Amanda escaped from in the very first Saw? Perhaps. It certainly involves a person's neck being trapped under some lasers, which we reckon will hurt an awful lot if it meets flesh.
6. Upside-down over some rotors
This poor chap is being dangled upside-down over a spinning rotor (we think). They don't look like blades to us, but more like heating elements of some sort (we're really not sure). Either way: ouch! It looks like all this is still happening within the farmhouse, and he's going in face down.
7. Jigsaw's workshop?
We're not sure if this is just heritage stuff or whether we'll see it in action, but the trailer shows some classic traps including a rigged-up shotgun, the reverse bear-trap, and this spikey beast that's not going to do anyone any favours. Luckily there's no one inside it. For now.
It looks like the police are investigating the scenes of the traps after the victims have been offed – note the blood-stained blades. Could this be a Saw 2-style mixed timeline thing? Are the police finding the barn after the victims have been dispatched?
Or maybe this is all just the prologue...
