Not content with Wonder Woman's already record-breaking release, Warner Bros are now looking to take home two oscars as they reportedly angle in on awards season.

According to Variety, there has been an internal discussion over the Best Picture and Best Director gongs as a comic-book film has never won either. In fact, a comic-book film director has never even been nominated for Best Director - not even Christopher Nolan.

Seeing as the film has already become the highest-grossing movie directed by a woman, taking home $781 million at the global box office, Warner Bros might just be in with a chance.

They have also officially confirmed the release date for the sequel Wonder Woman 2 which will be hitting cinemas on December 13, 2019.

Wonder Woman was set in 1918 at the end of World War I, whereas the sequel looks like it's going to be set in the '80s, following a Cold War narrative.

And, in good news, director Patty Jenkins recently confirmed that she is up for returning for the follow-up after being initially non-committal about her involvement in Wonder Woman 2.

"I had an epiphany about Wonder Woman 2," Jenkins told the audience at a Women in Film screening of her movie. "I was like, you don't have to do this."

"It doesn't have to be a foregone conclusion that you do Wonder Woman 2. But then as I was falling asleep I had an epiphany."

"I was like, 'Wait a minute. You have the greatest character of all time that you love dearly, with a cast that you love sitting in the palm of your hand at this day and age — you can do whatever you want with them — are you crazy?'

"And then I suddenly realised, it's not more, it's another movie. It's its own movie. And it's got to be great."

However, don't take that as a confirmation she's on board just yet, as Jenkins later clarified on Twitter that nothing's been agreed...
