Shia LaBeouf definitely won't be returning for the fifth Indiana Jones movie.

For Indiana's latest adventure, Harrison Ford will have to do without the controversial star – who played a key role as Indiana's sidekick and son in the much-maligned Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Screenwriter David Koepp confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly.

"Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say," he said. "And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film."

Koepp also gave a status update on the movie – which is scheduled for release on July 10, 2020.

"We're plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start [filming], I think that's up to Mr [Steven] Spielberg and Mr Ford," he said.

"I know we've got a script we're mostly happy with."
