Jared Leto, whose earnest determinedness to be a Serious Actor should be laudable but somehow is always just painfully cringeworthy, brought his trademark extra-ness to his role as Blade Runner 2049's blind villain, Niander Wallace. Before his debut camera test, Leto donned contact lenses that rendered him blind, according to the film's thoroughly impressed director Denis Villeneuve:

He could not see at all. He was walking with an assistant, very slowly. It was like seeing Jesus walking into a temple... Everybody became super silent, and there was a kind of sacred moment. Everyone was in awe. It was so beautiful and powerful— I was moved to tears.

This isn't even the most over-the-top stunt that Leto's pulled in pursuit of actorly authenticity.
