Following up the hilarious teaser released in July, the new trailer for The Disaster Artist shows Tommy Wiseau (Franco) setting out to make his own movie after being told he'll never make it in Hollywood, by Judd Apatow no less.

That movie went on to become The Room which has developed a major cult following, including interactive screenings, for its infamous status as one of the worst movies ever made.

Franco seems to have nailed Wiseau's unique accent and weird quirks, such as in the final scene of the trailer when he's shooting a sex scene.

"I need to show my ass to sell this movie," he tells leading man Greg Sestero (played by Dave Franco), before not quite aiming right.

"Why is he having sex with her belly button? He knows where her vagina is, right?," asks Seth Rogen's Sandy Schklair.

The Disaster Artist is being tipped for potential Oscar success after its work-in-progress screening at SXSW earlier this year received a lot of critical acclaim.

Even Wiseau is a fan of the biopic as he revealed in a typically odd response.

"We were unsure of what he was going to think, especially because he said, 'Greg book only 40 percent true'. It was like, well, that's what we based it on, so what are you going to think about our movie?" Franco recalled.

"I was like, 'So, Tommy, what did you think of the movie?' And he said, 'I approve 99.9 percent'. And we were like, 'What was the 0.1 percent?' And he said, 'I think the lighting, in the beginning, a little off'."

The Disaster Artist is out in US cinemas on 1 December, with a UK release date to be confirmed.
