Although it's been confirmed the next 007 won't be played by a woman - more's the pity in our opinion - the director of the 25th instalment, and their gender, is still up in the air.

James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli yesterday confirmed that the 007 franchise would "of course" consider female directors – though we're not getting our hopes up.

Speaking at the premiere of her movie Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool on Tuesday (September 12), Broccoli told Screen International: "There are a lot of women working on [Film Stars], which pleases me very much."

"It's incredibly important to support change in front of and behind the camera. I love working with women. It's a different vibe."

Barbara continued, "We have to promote women within the industry. Women are often tasked with taking care of children and ailing parents, so it's hard for some women to sustain a career in this industry.

"We have to be more family-friendly, with childcare, flexible hours and job shares. At Eon, we have a lot of women doing job sharing and it's easy with technology."

Patty Jenkins might be tied up with Wonder Woman 2 but there's plenty of female directors if you look hard enough, Barb.
