Beyond his name, Sapper Morton, we don't know much about the replicant that Dave Bautista plays in the upcoming Blade Runner 2049. We saw a glimpse of him in the new trailer, but a new short film—the second of three, each made by a different director—shows a surprisingly vulnerable character.
In the clip, which is directed by Ridley Scott's son Jake Scott, Bautista brings a little girl Graham Greene's 1940 novel The Power and the Glory. "It's about an out an outlaw priest who's trying to understand the meaning of being human," he tells the girl.
Ah yes, if this is any indication, Blade Runner 2049 is going to be some high-brow sci-fi, my friends. Indeed, The Power and the Glory is about an unnamed priest who is on the run from the police. Lo and behold, Bautista's character is also on the run from the authorities. After they finish the conversation the girl and her mother are attacked by a couple of thugs, but Bautista steps in to easily kick their ass because he's A) a replicant and B) Dave Bautista. This movie is going to rule.
